Congratulations to SBP residents Elliot Chabot, Christopher Jennison and Megan Virga on their election for three year terms to the Board of Trustees for the Bel Pre Recreation Association, Inc. (BPRA). The BPRA functions as the neighborhood’s homeowners association, and has 9 board members.
The BPRA election took place on Thursday, November 17, after the Annual Meeting of the Strathmore Bel Pre Civic Association (SBPCA). The SBPCA board presented their budget and an overview of the year’s successful programming, and they announced that resident Josephine Bahn had been appointed to fill a vacancy. Two vacancies remain on the Board. State Delegate and SBP resident Bonnie Cullison (D-19) and State Senator Roger Manno (D-19) also addressed the annual meeting, discussing upcoming legislation and addressing neighborhood concerns.
After the SBPCA meeting and the BPRA election, a bylaws change was discussed that would allow the BPRA to survey membership about whether the annual meeting should be held in October or November. Current bylaws dictate a November meeting. Though a quorum was present for the election of new trustees, a quorum was not present for this bylaws discussion, and so the initiative was shelved for a future meeting.
The Strathmore-Bel Pre Civic Association is a non-profit corporation whose purpose is to promote effective communications within the Strathmore community; to track developments within the county at large that might affect our neighborhood; and to sponsor community events such as the annual yard sale and the 4th of July parade, field day, and picnic. The Civic Association is entirely separate from the community’s homeowners’ association (HOA), the Bel Pre Recreation Association, which manages the neighborhood’s recreation facilities and covenants.
